The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, announced the African App Launchpad initiative within the closing ceremony of the World Youth Forum (WYF) 2018 on Nov 6, 2018 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The African App Launchpad (AAL) initiative is an Africa-wide platform aiming to build capacity of Egyptian and African youth and foster establishment of sustainable Egyptian and African startups in the area of the advanced ever-changing app and game technologies.
AAL targets building capacity of ten thousand learners and establishing one hundred startups. AAL works by availing a high-quality, technology-learning online platform through crowd-sourcing top online content developed by prestigious universities and leading companies, and delivered through three leading MOOCs; Coursera, edX, and Udacity.
The distinctive content of the courses is prepared through the collaborative effort of top universities and leading companies, and is made available on globally leading MOOC platforms such as: Coursera, edX, and Udacity.
Courses start according to their time on the providers websites. Some courses are archived and some have a start date. Learners need to register at least one month before the start date as selection and interview process takes at least one month from registration.
A higher-education college graduate of year 2006 at most or will graduate within 2 years to access all tracks.
Non-ICT applicants and junior university students are eligible for some introductory tracks.
Learners with Non-ICT background are allowed 2 tracks.
Learners with ICT background are allowed a second track if they nominate 3 other learners who apply and pass successfully their first month milestone: Project submission or 1st course completion.

Study groups will be launched once there are a minimum of 10 learners within the same geographical area in a certain track, and based on availability of a mentor in this region for this track. Study groups availability and model of execution per each African State may vary.
AAL initiative is available to any citizen in Africa on a condition thst there is a focal point governmental entity in that specific African country confirming the official participation of the country. The registration form will avail each African State once a partner is identified in that State.
